The Public Library of Corfu is the oldest public library in Greece. Its history goes back to the mid of the 18th century, when the library of the monastery of St. Justina of the Order of Franciscan Friars, located in the suburb of Garitsa, added the library of Kanonikou Iakovou Saveriou Kanal, theologian and bishop deputy of the Latins. These two libraries, which estimated that included around 3.500 volumes, were the cornerstone of the subsequent library of former Ionian Academy. Today library host a variety of interesting historical books dated back to 1480 A.C. including the famous Eptanisian collection. Library is a lively cell of the community and we hope it will continue to grow.
