Paleokastritsa is arguably the most famous picturesque village of the island of Corfu located 25 km northwest of Corfu Town. The word Paleokastritsa literally means old fortress, witnessing the existence of such a castle on the rocky cave where now stands the Monastery of the Virgin. Agios Spiridon Beach (Saint Spiridon) or ‘the main beach’ of Paleokastritsa as it is known, is located beside the road at the bottom of the resort. The beach is covered by a mixture of mainly sand and some pebbles, it has crystal clear, calm waters and lush greenery. The beach has been awarded with a Blue Flag (not in 2014) for its organization and its clearness and during the high season and the weekends can get very busy as it is very popular. It is situated in a bay and is surrounded by a selection of bars and tavernas. If you prefer some peace and quiet the left side of Agios Spyridon Corfu is more relaxed and isolated. We strongly suggest to get in a boat and have a tour around caves and remote beaches. You will not regret it! One of our top destinations. |
