Spianada Square Corfu, central to the life of the town, is known as ‘the largest square in the Balkans’. Cafes spill out onto the passing scene, and Corfiot celebrations, games, and concerts take place here. At night, lovers promenade and children play in this festive public space. Today locals refer to the two parts of the square as ‘Pano’ (Up) and ‘Kato’ (Down) ‘Platia’ (square). In ‘Kato platia’ a lot of cricket games take place especially during spring and summer time.
Square is famous for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus during the Easter. We believe that you will not encounter anywhere else such a massive celebration of the event. Keep in mind that Easter in Corfu is considered the best in Greece and attract a massive amount of tourists.

In front of the photo you see a cistern. It wasn’t always here instead it was first found in Dimarxiou square with a capacity of more than 25.0000 cubic meters. It was George Theotokis who founded it on 1710 A.C. and until 1832 it remained in the initial location. Later it was moved to the current spot and is operating until nowadays as a fountain. Around you may find the coat of arms of ‘Theotoki’ family, as well as ‘Androutseli’ and ‘Kouartanou’ who supervised the construction. Also badges of Corfu and Venice are well preserved on the sides.
