This is the place you will get lost! Even we,although born and grown in Corfu, there are times we get confused. Campiello is one of the oldest districts of the Old Town, which existed prior to city’s fortification. Area built on a hill that presents basic defensive characteristics. Stairs, narrow steep streets and openings will lead your way to discover old gothic arches embedded in the walls of houses, massive building structures of the Venetian era, courtyards with wells, carved doors and beautiful churches will add to your walk. Insist on the latter because it was the meeting place of the aristocracy, wealth demonstration site and difference expression. You may notice that most of the buildings are painted in shades of ochre, but in the 19th century a traveller described the colours as ‘crushed strawberry and rotten apple’, the favourite tints of the 17th century builders. On weathered walls you can see layers of the underlying colors where the ochre has peeled away.
It took as more than three weeks to create map of the area and added in the upcoming application of Mimi and Coco and we are quite proud about it. We have to inform you that perhaps you get pure signal reception in this area.
